WHO WE ARE


Design & Automation Solutions was formed in 2012 by Chartered Mechanical Engineer Mick Stallwood to provide a “Concept to Completion” service for manufacturing businesses and research organisations. Our aim is to offer our clients a one stop shop for all their factory automation, tooling and associated engineering requirements.

Mick Stallwood Managing Director

Mick Stallwood

Managing Director & Senior Consultant

Mick is a chartered and mechanical engineer and has worked in the world of automation, bespoke machinery and tooling for 35 years. In this time he’s been involved with all aspects of design, manufacture and installation of this type of equipment, successfully supplying SME’s and multinational clients in the UK, Europe and India. Through this work he’s gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in the equipment, manufacturing processes and project management involved and now offers his services to advise and assist clients with their automation needs. He has dealt with subjects as diverse as skinning hazelnuts and handling rat poison, and incorporated technologies from robotics to lasers.

Terry Kirkham Commercial Manager

Terry Kirkham

Business Consultant & Commercial Manager 

Terry has an MBA from the Open University Business School and a wealth of commercial business experience. During his 35 year career as a company Director and Managing Director he has gained considerable experience of overseas markets (EMEA, China and the USA) and exporting in general as well as project management, business development, business recovery and general management. Terry is also Non-executive Chair of a Charity in the Digital media arena.

He advises both our business and that of our clients on a variety of business and commercial matters.

Demis Lowrey Senior Mechatronics & Commissioning Engineer

Demis Lowrey

Senior Mechatronics & Commissioning Engineer

Demis has over 20 years’ experience in electronics, electrical & mechanical engineering. His multi-lingual capability enables us to work with teams across the globe, Demis speaks English, Italian and Maltese and can also ‘get by’ in a few other languages including Japanese. He now oversees the building, commissioning, installation and servicing of our equipment.

Maddie Wiggins Projects & Compliance Manager

Projects & Compliance Manager

Maddie has over 25 years experience in compliance, quality and automation systems, 15 of those working as an automation and compliance engineer for Nestlé UK with an involvement in large engineering projects. For the past 10 years her focus has been on Health & Safety, Quality Assurance and Compliance and she now looks after the compliance, H&S and project management related matters of our business.

Will Waterston Mechatronics Project Engineer

Will Waterston

Mechatronics Project Engineer

Will has a degree in mechanical engineering from Portsmouth University. He assists the team in all aspects of the design and building of our equipment.

Artem Shapoval

Project Engineer

Artem has a degree in mechanical engineering. He has been working in R&D Department, where he excelled in bringing pioneer and innovate solutions to the world. Also, he has experience in international end-to-end projects for baggage handling and warehousing industries. Now he joined our talented team as a Project Manager to continue developing and delivering cutting edge automaton systems around the globe.

Our team of engineers have backgrounds in many industry sectors and over 60 year’s experience between them. We work for clients who need design, project management, consultancy and special purpose machinery services within their manufacturing operations.

The machines we design and build are typically assembly, packaging or process equipment and by the very nature of factory automation & special purpose machinery we get involved in a wide spectrum of industries. As a result, we have accumulated a wealth of experience in many different industrial processes and techniques to meet your requirements.

We not only design equipment, but assist clients with all aspects of their manufacturing requirements advising on the most suitable equipment for purpose and if necessary source it.

We can design and manufacture equipment, manage the installation and commissioning leaving you with a fully functioning system and can act as a partner and resource as and when required, helping you maintain your efficiency and profitability.
